Thanx. I was thinking of Barton Hall as a good starting point--ya only get one chance to make a first impression, yada,yada--but shied off as I thought it too obvious a starting point. I came back across my 5/8/77 as I was putting a compilation together a couple weeks back. I hadn't played it in almost a year...then ended up playing it for 2 straight days. I'm also thinking of 5/26/72, 10/20/74, 2/3/79 (an incomplete show but GREAT short-form Dead)...and, just as likely, something tasty from the '80 Warfield/Radio City run.

I'd give a hearty endorsement to that Lyceum show. High energy from start to finish and one of my own personal favourites. You can't go too far wrong with Europe 72.

Lots of luck with the new woodshop enterprise - sounds like the sort of place I'd like to work myself (if I wasn't such a totally unpractical buffoon...)

maybe throw your #2 a back door slider and go with 2/26/77 -- Terrapin debut and opener to coincide with a new beginning for yourself

I would throw in One from the Vault - Pure 1975 Freakin Magic Bliss.
The Heads will love you forever and the Straights just might hear that Eyes-drums-Stronger than Dirt and Convert!!! Plus the sound is maybe the best I've heard on any release.
